Unnecessary love triangles in young adult fiction

Why is it that ever young adult book lately is full of unneeded love triangles when it is extreamly clear who the heroine is going to get with.

For example I'm reading the 'Iron Fey' series and the heroine is in a love triangle with Puck(yes that Puck) and Prince Ash. It is so clear that she is going to end up with Ash!

SPOILERS FOR IRON FEY

When he was first introduced Meghan keeps going in with how beautiful he is to the point where it's annoying, they are already together, and it's pretty clear that she only sees Puck as a friend.

Oh, and did I mention that on the author's blog she actually made sims of her characters and she had the Ash and Meghan sims marry!

Yeah, Puck totally has a chance...

End spoilers

Now that I think about it most love triangles in fiction have been unnecessary and had no tension to the story. The only triangle that I can think of on top of my head that actually added tension to the series is Yuki, Tohru, and Kyo from Fruits Baskets.

But then again it did have one of the biggest croop outs to a love triangle I have ever seen.

FRUIT BASKET SPOILERS

Yuki views Tohru as a mother figure!

Come on! that is just weak, Natsuki.

  1. Dopey love stories? Try Steph Meyer!
BTW, about diet and weight loss etc. When I was 28 my doc said I was dead unless I got cholesterol down. Now at 75, my doc, (not the same one)says, "Damn! How do you keep your cholesterol so low?"
You got it girl, lifestyle changes as you said.
